Descending and successor of Nicolau de Arrochella Moraes e Castro Pimentel, 1st Count of Arrochela, Bernardo de Arrochela Alegria is the great force of this project that owns over 600ha in Douro Superior, having in this land more than 115ha of vineyards.

It is in the sub-region of Douro Superior, between Vila Nova de Foz Coa, Torre de Moncorvo and Vila Flor, on the banks of the Rivers Douro and Tua, the project of producing wine and olive oil develops.

Vinification Center |
The vinification center is in Quinta da Peça, Vila Flor.
The cellar, completely equipped, has a production capacity of 300 000L, and is divided in three different areas:
• Vinification area, with two granite mills, called “Lagares”, and stainless steel fermentation vats
• Wine ageing cave in wood barrels
• Expedition area of the final product

Winemaking and Viniculture |
The vineyards technical monitoring is the responsibility of the experienced Eng. Luís Carvalho, a national reference of the Portuguese viticulture, with the support of Eng. Rui Soares.
Trying to achieve the typical character of Douro region in Casa de Arrochella Wines, the winemaking supervision is done by Luís Soares Duarte, a well known winemaker from Douro.

The Olive Oil Mill |
Located in Almendra, Vila Nova de Foz Côa, this mill is a reference in the region.
The company acquired the extinct Olive Oil Cooperative of Almendra, which is equipped with the latest production technology, side by side with the old mills and olive oil presses, in a mix of modernity and tradition.
The olives here received are selected according to the highest standards of quality, thus ensuring the production of high quality olive oils.
It is in Quinta das Trigueiras and in Quinta da Peça that is possible to find the olive groves of Casa de Arrochella. In over 50 ha is possible to find the varieties: Cobrançosa, Cordovil, Verdeal, Madural and Negrinha.
Beyond their own production, Casa de Arrochella counts on a nucleus of olive producers from the region that compromised to respect the rules and techniques established by Casa de Arrochella. This way is guaranteed the higher standards of quality.
The technical monitoring of the olive and olive oil production is in charge of Eng. Dina Leonardo, a profound knowledge of the region and the culture of olives and olive oil.

Grandes Quintas Reserva Red Wine 2007 - Douro DOC |
Grandes Quintas Reserve Red Wine is born from the diversity and from the unique characteristics of each of our estates.
For the production of this wine, we start with the technical mastery of the viticulture and oenology professionals selecting the best vineyard lots, which, by its terroir, give us more guarantees of obtaining the best grapes, both in terms of their characteristics, as in maturation. | | Then, the accompaniment and dedication, as well as choice of the best date to harvest, allows us to have, when entering the winery, the grapes can give origin to a wine that, after a long stage in the best barrels, presents the entire character of the Douro.
This wine can be consumed now, but it also has a great potential for aging.

The Olive Oil

Only using mechanical resources, olive oil Casa de Arrochella Douro Valley is rated DOP Trás-os-Montes, perpetuates the tradition of the best olive oils in the region.
Result of a careful selection of the best olives from the varieties Verdeal, Madural and Negrinha, the olive oil Casa de Arrochella Douro Valley presents an intense fruit flavour, with aromas of fresh | | olive, tomato, apple and almond. With an acidity of less than 0.3º and a very elegant taste, green, slightly bitter, spicy and has a long and persistent finish.
